Objectives and activities
The campaigning and advocacy workstream led by Campaigning Effectivness, NCVO aims to...
1. Identify models of change
We are creating a step change in the way support providers are able to understand and influence local, regional and national decision-making processes and helping their beneficiaries to do the same. Support providers receive practical support on using tools, techniques and models.
2. Develop creativity and innovation for maximum impact
We are developing a creative and innovative culture for campaigning and advocacy amongst support providers and the frontline organisations that they support. Support providers are being given the inspiration, knowledge, skills and credibility to support third sector organisations, strengthening campaigning leadership and improving capacity for innovation at regional, national and community levels.
3. Provide greater organisational coherence
We are building the capacity of support providers to conceive, manage and integrate campaigning and advocacy within wider organisation plans and to enable the frontline organisations they support to do the same.
4. Assess the impact of campaigning and advocacy
We are developing a common understanding of planning, strategy development, monitoring and evaluation methodologies for campaigning and advocacy. Training for up to an anticipated 3,000 participants enables support providers to understand the aims and objectives of campaigning, and to build the capacity of others, particularly at regional, local and community levels – as well as overcoming existing confusion about evaluation methodology and purpose.
5. Achieve greater representation and accountability
Through training and sharing good practice we are fostering clarity amongst support providers about the means by which they – and the frontline organisations they assist – achieve organisational legitimacy, representation, accountability and credibility.
6. Collaborate
We are building strategic relationships with Collaboration benefits, Equalities and diversity and Responding to social change workstreams – working in close collaboration on several specific areas. In addition, we are planning collaboration with Leadership and governance and seek the support of Marketing and communications workstream and the National Performance Programme.
There are fewer immediate points of contact with the Income generation and Modernising volunteering workstreams, but we are maintaining contact to ensure that opportunities can be identified as they arise.
