About Equality and diversity
Inequality and human rights abuses are serious problems in the UK today, and all third sector organisations have a responsibility to tackle them.
Discrimination and abuse
Millions of people in the UK face discrimination and abuse daily because of their race, gender, sexuality, gender identity, disability, immigration status, age, class, religion or another aspect of their identity or social status.
Tackling inequality and human rights abuses
Charities and community groups (the third sector) have always been at the forefront of tackling these inequalities and human rights abuses. Equality and civil rights movements continue to campaign for equality laws, expose persistent inequality, and support victims and survivors of discrimination and abuse.
Discrimination within organisations
Discrimination can also be experienced by workers and service users within organisations. It is vital that the third sector acknowledges and challenges discrimination and abuse wherever it exists, whether it is inside our own organisations or in the private and public sectors in wider society.
Diverse equality organisations
Discrimination causes deep-rooted social problems, and people with experience of prejudice and abuse are best placed to address them. Diverse equality organisations within the third sector have developed effective and creative solutions to these problems.
The equality and diversity workstream is funded by Capacitybuilders and uses this expertise to help all support providers enable the third sector to take on the difficult and important task of fighting discrimination.
