Capacitybuilders funding
Capacitybuilders is committed to improving the support available to all third sector organisations, including their ‘voice' in policy making.
All of our funding programmes aim to achieve significant improvements in the way sector support is delivered and funded across England, by local, regional and national agencies.
We want to ensure that staff delivering this support have the right skills, services are appropriately funded, and the needs of frontline organisations are at the heart of the development of support services.
SKiLD
SKiLD is a programme of NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action), funded by Capacitybuilders, and is for all infrastructure: from Councils for Voluntary Service (CVS) and Rural Community Councils through to black and minority ethnic development organisations, community forums and local development trusts.
SKiLD is aiming to equip development workers in infrastructure organisations with the skills and knowledge they need to give relevant and high quality support to third sector organisations.
Working alongside BIG and their BASIS project
Capacitybuilders’ work is complemented by BIG’s funding for BASIS project – and dependent on the many funders of sector support services at national, regional and local level.
In delivering our shared vision of improved support, we also need to recognise key challenges including accountability and responsiveness to demand, and demonstrating impact, improving reach and raising the quality and effectiveness of services.
Support providers and networks in England
At national level, National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) and the Community Alliance, and some umbrella bodies such as Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS), bassac and Age Concern England are working to improve the quality and demonstrate the effectiveness of their member organisations, which share a specific focus or mission around sector support.
At local and regional level, Capacitybuilders funds ‘consortia’ to bring together sector support providers to collectively plan and deliver improvements in the support services available to frontline organisations. You can find out more about regional structures in the regional pages of this website.
