Objectives and activities

The ICT regional champions workstream led by NAVCA aims...

  • to gather information on levels of ICT use in each region and to work with local consortia through regular reports, forums, surveys and events
  • to provide impartial signposts in print and online to appropriate and trusted local providers of ICT support and services within each region
  • to identify gaps in ICT support services in each region and to work with local support providers to try to fill these gaps
  • to increase knowledge and understanding within sub-regional consortia on how to make the most efficient use of their own ICT and that of the groups they support. A range of on-line and printed resources have been produced - more details are on www.ictchampions.org.uk
  • to help support organisations share their improved understanding and confidence about ICT, and good practice, and to evaluate their outcomes
  • to work for increased funding for technology and ICT support services
  • to help the production and adoption of a third sector regional ICT strategy in each region
  • to help support organisations understand new technology developments and to make informed choices about their use.

Collaboration

ICT should not just be considered as a standalone topic, but as a vital element to all aspects of the work delivered by local support providers. Where Capacitybuilders national workstreams or other Capacitybuilders funding programmes include ICT we can provide access to our knowledge and resources to complement the effectiveness and reach of these programmes.

We see potential links as:

  • the on-line campaigning tools being developed by the campaigning workstream
  • with the marketing and communications workstream as social media and social networking platforms are used more widely by local support providers
  • with the equalities and diversity workstream as a lack of digital inclusion has a direct relationship with social exclusion and in many urban and rural communities therefore presents an equality issue
  • we have an ongoing relationship with the net:gain strategic planning workstream as the key messages of this program fit closely with the messages presented by the ICT Champions
  • with funding provided by Capacitybuilders to individual consortia and through the Improving Reach and Modernisation programmes to ensure that funded support organisations and consortia have robust health-checked systems, are making wise ICT purchases and developing business plans that make best use of technology.
